Our story

It started with one pig named Sammy

SAHH rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes animals who have survived neglect, abuse, or abandonment. It began with Sammy — the very first pig, adopted in 2013, and the reason the pig-rescue mission exists at all.

Founded as a nonprofit in 2018 by Teri Crutchfield, the sanctuary has grown into a forever home for horses, donkeys, mini horses, pigs, goats, sheep, dogs, chickens, peacocks, and more. Most of the animals here will live out their lives at the sanctuary. A few — mostly dogs — go on to be adopted into loving families.

There are no paid employees here. Everything you see is powered by donations and by volunteers who show up, week after week.

How it works

Rescue, rehabilitate, home for good

Rescue

Animals arrive from neglect, abuse, abandonment, or owner surrender — often with nowhere else left to go.

Rehabilitate

Medical care, patience, and trust-building. Meals at the same time every single day are part of the therapy.

Home for good

Most residents stay for life. This is their forever home, and we're their visitors. A few animals — mostly dogs — go on to find loving families of their own.

Rescued from a slaughter auction while secretly pregnant, Ella gave birth to Jaxson at the sanctuary on Labor Day 2017. They're inseparable ambassadors.
